I’m doing it wrong

I just looked at the top 20 best-sellers at Amazon. Here is what I found.

Fifteen of the 20 are nonfiction.

Six are nutrition/diet books. Three of those are in the top 10.

The first fiction book comes in at #9. It’s 50 Shades of Gray.

My conclusion: If I want a guaranteed best seller, I should write a diet book with lots of sex in it.

To my loyal followers, I am not dead. I simply dropped this ball for a while. I will be back with regularity in mid to late April.

About Marie Loughin

I love reading, writing, and editing speculative fiction of all sorts. My current focus is on writing contemporary fantasy, where I get to play god with characters from myth and legend. My Norse-based urban fantasy, Valknut: The Binding, is available at Kindle Books and other e-book retailers. You can find me at my blog (marieloughin.com) and on Twitter (@mmloughin).

Hmm, you know I think you got that slightly wrong. You should write a sex book with diets in it. That would sell far more. 🙂

My philosophy? Said it some time ago. If you want a bestseller, use a butt plug and tie some people up. Guaranteed hit.

  3. No wonder I like you so much, Marie! By those criteria, all of my favorite authors are doing it wrong, yet still producing books I love. I’m going to infer this means I am more discerning than the masses, and those authors who are “doing it wrong” are beyond the crass limits of popular culture.

Hmmm, which I think means they’re doing something *right*…
